Antony Gormley, ‘Field’, 1984-85

Antony Gormley: Calling on the Body at the Lehmbruck Museum (until Feb 26) is the most extensive exhibition in Germany to date by the British sculptor. The museum is named after the German sculptor Wilhelm Lehmbruck (1881-1919) for whom Gormley has long expressed his admiration for his work’s inwardness, sense of calm and potential for reflection. This exhibition, which encompasses the entire museum, has been conceived as a dialogue between the two artists, showcasing key works created almost a century apart and demonstrating how both use the body to evoke a state of being and quiet contemplation.
