Vaszary: The Unknown is Familiar at the Hungarian National Gallery (until Apr 2) features some 70 works by Janos Vaszary (1867-1939), one of the most versatile figures in 20th century Hungarian art, 24 of which were found in the gallery’s collection that even expert curators were not aware of. The paintings represent almost every era of the artist’s career and his diverse styles, from his early impressionist period to expressionistic compositions, from the Parisian art deco style to pictures of the Danube and coastal scenes with a Mediterranean atmosphere.
