Modigliani: The Primitivist Revolution at the Albertina Museum (until Jan 9, 2022) marks the centenary of the artist’s death with 80 works proposing that he based his trademark elongated faces on African (he was a regular visitor to the Trocadero ethnographic museum in Paris) and Cycladic sculptures (the latter also influencing his curvilinear female nudes) – hence ‘Primitivist’ in the exhibition title.
